  7. DESCRIPTION
  8.  
  9. Everyone has heard of memory. Each program requires a certain amount
  10. of memory to run. If the amount of memory required by programs exceeds
  11. the amount of memory available to the computer-system, something bad
  12. will happen.  Windows also has 2 limited storage areas for GDI
  13. Resources and User Resources.  All running windows programs share
  14. these areas.  Things stored in them include menus, bitmaps,
  15. dialog-box controls, etc.  Unlike Memory, the size of the areas
  16. available for these Resources CANNOT BE INCREASED.  And  Windows will
  17. begin to behave strangely when either of these areas begins to run
  18. low on free space.

  20. Sentinel is a tool for viewing Resources and Memory usage on a
  21. computer running Windows. This information may be displayed in
  22. various ways. Sentinel may be configured to set off audio and/or
  23. visual alarms when Resources or Memory reach prespecified levels.

  27. INSTALLATION
  28.  
  29. Copy the files:
  30.  SENTINEL.EXE
  31.  SENTINEL.HLP
  32. to any directory where you like to keep your stuff.  The other files
  33. are optional and may be deleted.  However, you might like to save
  34. README.TXT (this file) and/or ORDER.TXT for future reference.  Sentinel
  35. may be started by running SENTINEL.EXE or by choosing SENTINEL.EXE from
  36. the File Manager.

  39. Sentinel may be added as an icon to a Program Manager group. In Program
  40. Manager, click the "File" menu option, then "New", then select
  41. "Program Item" and enter SENTINEL.EXE with its full path as the new item.
  42. If you have a "StartUp" group, adding Sentinel there will cause it to run
  43. every time Windows starts up.

  47. LICENSE

  49. This program is shareware.  You may use the program and evaluate it
  50. for no more than 30 days.  After this time, you must either register
  51. Sentinel or remove it from your system.  By using Sentinel, you
  52. agree to these terms.  Failure to comply with this condition is a
  53. violation of U.S. and international copyright law.

  57. REGISTRATION
  58.  
  59. Sentinel may be registered by mail. Sentinel may also be registered
  60. online by Compuserve users by GOing SWREG (Registration ID 4958).
  61. Upon receipt of your payment, you will be supplied with a
  62. "Validation Code".  This code is entered into the program along
  63. with the "Registration Name" of your choice.  The "Registration Name"
  64. and "Validation Code" are entered by selecting "Register" from the
  65. main menu.

  67. Benefits of registering Sentinel:
  68. 1) It will be possible to run Sentinel without the Title & MainMenu
  69. 2) Your "Registration Name" will appear in place of <Unregistered copy>
  70.    on the configuration-panel.
  71. 3) Updates will ALWAYS be free to registered users.  Future versions
  72.    will be made readily available for download.  You should be able to
  73.    find them the same place you found your current copy of Sentinel.
  74. 4) Suggestions by registered users will be incorporated into future
  75.    versions of Sentinel.
  76. 5) Registering supports the try-before-you buy shareware system.

  79. 1) Selecting Help on the Option-panel's menu and selecting "Order"
  80. 2) Printing file ORDER.TXT
  81. If you do not have a printer, be sure to include all of the
  82. information requested in the order form with your check or money order.
